This fun metafictional picture book plays a subject often used in children’s picture books, the monster. There is a monster in the house, in every room and every situation, and it is frightening! There is also another creature in the house, that when on close inspection, is in every picture. The viewer is not quite sure who the monster is until the second last page when all is revealed.
The illustrations in this large format picture book are lively and entertaining, with much to look at. It would be a useful book to use with classes when looking at narrator and point of view. Multiple readings are possible and some viewers may see a similarity with Sendak’s monsters
