A family of rabbits, Albert, Tom, Flossie and Pipkin, live and play together on the river bank. But what they really want more than anything are some friends to play with. When a family of squirrels move in across the river they are excited, until they realise they are unable to safely cross. After some ideas that don’t work, they decide to make a boat. By working together and with some help from their father, they make it.
This is a delightfully illustrated book about friendship and family, working together and overcoming obstacles. It would make a lovely read aloud and I can just see some young viewers wanting to listen to this over and over again. The illustrations are beautiful and the written text flows nicely with a good structured narrative, introducing young readers to the notion of a story with a beginning, middle, and an end.
This will do well in public libraries and collections for young readers.
Many thanks to Bloomsbury for sending this book for review.
