A board book about colours, this new publication from one of Australia’s best picture book creators has much to offer. Seven children greet the young viewer on the first double page spread with each child featured individually afterwards, with a simple, short sentence collaborating with the illustrations. “Sam likes fireman red” and “Olive likes fairy pink” show the characters dressed as a fireman and a fairy. The page with the print has the featured colour as the background, while the opposite page has the character at eye level looking directly at the viewer. The book concludes beautifully with a colour everyone likes.
Froggy Green has all the features of a quality board book. The verbal text is short, pages are not cluttered and the intended audience will easily identify with the characters. Public libraries should stock this one in the multiples, and anyone looking for a gift for a newborn or toddler need not look any further.
Many thanks to Penguin Random House Australia for supplying this book for review.
